TOP 10 LEASING Q & A
Q: What is the Barnett Shale?
A: It is the geological formation that lays almost 1 1⁄2 miles
below the surface and contains natural gas. Its thickness ranges from
50 – 400 feet thick.
Q: How large is the Barnett Shale?
A: The Barnett Shale covers over 5,000 square miles. There are 15
counties that have production (including all of Tarrant county),
and as exploring continues the number is expected to grow to 20 counties
or more. It is the largest natural gas field in Texas and the 2nd
largest field in the nation, containing upwards to 27 trillion cubic
feet of gas.
Q: Is Dale leasing in my area?
A: If you receive a letter or postcard from Dale, then we are interested
in leasing your minerals. If you have not received anything, call
our Fort Worth office at 817.451.5353 and we will let you know!
Q: How do I know if I own my minerals?
A: Many people in the city own their minerals or a portion of their
minerals. Dale will do preliminary research to determine what, in
Dale’s opinion, your mineral ownership is for leasing purposes.
This opinion is not a definite determination of mineral ownership.
Q: What is the difference between a sign-on bonus and a royalty
check?
A: The sign-on bonus refers to the “up-front money” paid
to the owner of the mineral rights in consideration for signing an
oil & gas lease. The royalty in an oil & gas lease is the
stated percentage share of production, or the value derived from production,
attributable to the leased premises, pursuant to the terms of the
lease.
Q: How long does the average natural gas well produce?
A: The Barnett Shale is still a young field so the exact well-life
is still uncertain, but many engineers and geologists believe the
average well could produce upwards to 20-25 years. A well will have
the highest production in the first year, and then there will be
a decline in the subsequent years.
Q: When I sign a lease with Dale, am I giving
away my minerals, house, or any part of my property?
A: No. When you sign a lease with Dale you are giving Dale the right to develop
and produce your minerals from the leased area, pursuant to the terms of the
lease.
Q: Is my house going to sink?
A: No. Dale has not found any recorded evidence of subsidence for
drilling a natural gas well in the Barnett Shale.
Q: Who is Dale Property Services LLC?
A: Dale is the most active and long-running urban leasing company
in Fort Worth (Star Telegram, April 30, 2007). Dale’s goals
are to properly educate each and every mineral owner in regards to
the urban development of natural gas. Dale will work to solidify
large leaseholds and provide urban mineral owners the ability to
have their gas produced.
Q: What is Dale’s relationship
with Chesapeake Energy Corporation?
A: Dale will handle all leasing in this area. Chesapeake Energy, the largest
independent natural gas producer in the United States and the most active driller
in the Barnett Shale, will conduct all operations.
